地域日本語教室が技能実習生にできる日本語支援とは―秋田市在住技能実習生対象のニーズ調査より―

要旨

筆者らが関わっている秋田市日本語教室は、秋田市が主催・運営している地域日本語教室で、主な教科書として『みんなの日本語』を使用し、レベル別の4クラスが開講されている。秋田市における技能実習生の増加に伴い技能実習生の教室登録者数も全体の54％に至った。しかし、新型コロナウイルスの影響でオンライン授業となったこともあってか、2021年度末頃、技能実習生の参加率の低下が問題となった。そこで2022年6月に秋田市の技能実習生を対象に日本語支援に関するニーズ調査を行い、50名から回答を得た。尚、本教室は2023年4月から対面授業に戻った。

調査の結果、日本語学習の機会の確保のために、受け入れ企業の積極的な協力が必要であること、仕事場面や生活における手続き関係で必要な日本語の支援を求めていること、教室には交流の場としてのニーズがあることがわかった。今後、技能実習生が参加したい教室を目指すには、仕事の日本語、生活の日本語、JLPT対策を行う等技能実習生のキャリアを考えた日本語の指導・支援を強化していく必要があることが明らかになった。

本稿ではこの結果を受け行った４つの新たな取り組みについて述べ、地域日本語教室の在り方について考察する。

Effective Way of Japanese Language Teaching at Local Community Classes for Foreign Technical Trainees - Report of Japanese Language Learning Needs Analysis Survey

Abstract

The Akita City Japanese Language class, organized and operated by the Akita City government, offers community-based Japanese language classes using the "Minna no Nihongo" curriculum with classes structured according to proficiency levels. With the increasing number of technical trainees in Akita City, constituting 54% of the total enrollment, the decrease in participation rates due to online classes during the COVID-19 pandemic posed a significant challenge. In response, a needs assessment survey was conducted in June 2022, gathering responses from 50 technical trainees. The classes resumed in-person status from April 2023. The survey revealed the necessity for active cooperation from host companies to secure opportunities for technical trainees to learn Japanese, as well as the need for support in Japanese language for work-related tasks and daily life procedures. Moreover, there is a demand for social interaction opportunities. To address these needs and encourage participation, it is crucial to enhance Japanese language instruction and support tailored to the career paths of technical trainees, focusing on workplace Japanese, daily life Japanese, and JLPT preparation. This article discusses four new initiatives based on the survey findings and reflects on the role of community-based Japanese language schools in light of these developments.
